Back to more of Anneke's friends. This time, in Strasbourg, a half-and-half French and German town, currently within the French national boundary.
Patty and Anneke go back a long way, so they had plenty to talk about.
Patty's husband, Bertrand is a wry old soul, who took us out for lunch and ordered us the biggest plates of mixed meats I'd ever seen: sausage, slices of pork, ground beef, more pork, more beef, piled high on sauerkraut. With lots of alcohol to wash it down. I was impressed.
Here's Patty's son, Gilles, and, below Gilles, her daughter, Zelda.
Anneke and I went around with Zelda and her friend, to see some of the sights of Strasbourg...a modern art museum (mostly trashy modern art -- I liked the photos of punk rock kids; Anneke liked the Klimt).
And here we are, at a pub, drinking one of those beers that they put added flavors into, very common in Germanic Europe. (Note that the girls, 16 years old don't have any problem drinking in public in these countries that aren't run by puritanical fanatics.)
