A few oddities on this page: First, mussels prized seaside cuisine of Holland and Belgium, in season during our stay. Each serving comes presented in its own big boiling pot. Fantastic. Next, money from many lands: here notes from Luxembourg and Italy; coins from Holland, Italy, Austria, Belgium and France...Beautiful money, but what an ordeal changing through countries! Last chance to see all this...here comes the Euro. And yes, McDonald's is all over Europe. What an embarrassment...and everyone loves it. I have here a disgustingly colored solicitation to get young Dutch workers interested in careers in flippin' burgers. Europe has very good and affordable public phones. You just buy a card and get many minutes of talk, quite cheap. Pictured here are cards from Holland, Italy, Germany and (romantic) France. And, right, a ticket stub from the Mauritshuis, art museum in the Hague. Portrayed here are dignified scholars, but the artist's joy in this painting was detailing the cadaver that all these fascinated fellows are staring at. And this, also from the Mauritshuis: a couple of black fellows by Rembrandt. What were they doing in early 17th century Holland?
