I don't remember what church this one was in, but I took a fancy to it, since it's a lovely picture of a woman with child, holding a plump & juicy human heart in her hand. Religious symbolism sometimes knows no bounds. Something a bit different, from the Basilica on the Square, was this mosaic of animals -- probably depicting Noah's ark, the only excuse in those days to portray something so naturalistic. Venice is filled with narrow walking streets (no cars!), and many of them offer bright display windows. We found these two little gnomes hiding in one, and in many, we found the most flamboyant collections of fanciful masks.
